winter. glorious winter.

So apparently we have been having a "typical" New Brunswick winter. And by typical, I mean an average of two storms a week since Christmas. The latest was 45 cm of snow we received last weekend (which followed a freezing rain storm two days before and is being followed by another 15 cm tomorrow). I am pretty sure we also have been having longer stretches of -30 degree temps than usual. And I really don't ever remember having skating rink driveways and roads so many times (in between all these snow and rain storms)!

And I must say that deciding to get a new puppy in the dead of winter can be seen as either a curse (because puppies have to go outside so much) or a blessing (because otherwise I wouldn't be getting outside so much)!!

All this to say, that we have had to get a little creative to keep the kids entertained when the power outages and/or roads have kept us housebound!

Here are some of the things that have helped to keep us sane (or maybe are the result of the sanity we are losing!!)

Many costume parties

Homemade volcanoes...

complete with real baking soda & vinegar explosions

Tea parties

 Playdough burritos

Playdough monster jams...set on fire

Impromptu star wars costumes

Making play stores, bakeries, tim horton's drive thrus...
might as well teach them young how to order my coffee!!

Cutting foam shapes and using water to stick them to the window
(note the green grass! this was during the January thaw!)

Science experiments for kids
Big huge mess for mom

Here's hoping that spring is around the corner and we can spend more time outside!!!

And Chevy? Still spending 90% of his time outside no matter the conditions and averaging a weight gain of 10 pounds/month (yes, that's Mak right beside him!)
